Scholarships for Students
The mission of the Marshfield Area Community Foundation is to “Connect People who care with causes that matter to enrich the quality of life in the Marshfield area.” Education is a cause that matters to all of us. A Scholarship Reception was held in May 2010. Here fund holders were able to meet scholarship winners.
The Community Foundation is proud to count 37 scholarship funds among the more than 110 funds entrusted to us. Each of these funds has its own story; who created it, why, what type of student can receive it– a new graduate or one returning to school after a gap in their education, whether or not it can be renewed, and how much it gives to each student. Our funds gave over $50,000 in tuition assistance for the 2010- 2011 school year! To put this in perspective, it was 13 years ago in 1997 that the Foundation presented its first scholarship. The following year we presented four. In 1999 there were fourteen. Now there are 74. We are very proud of the individuals, businesses, organizations, and families who have stepped forward to provide this wonderful demonstration of faith in our young people and belief in the importance of education.
We have award winners from throughout our service area-from Marshfield High School, Columbus Catholic High School, Colby High School, Auburndale High School, Stratford High School, Loyal High School, Osseo High School, and even Fort Atkinson High School in Iowa. We have younger students winning dance scholarships from Marshfield, Unity, Neillsville, and Spencer. We have many not so young students to award who are going back to school after a gap in their education. We are proud of their ambition and their dedication to furthering their education.
